Saving self-booking links: the Update Business step

Saving a self-booking link in Opus1 takes two clicks in two places. Add Link puts the link into the form on your screen, and Update Business at the bottom of the page writes it to your studio. Nothing is live until you see Business updated successfully — refreshing or clicking Go Back before that discards everything, with no warning.

Overview

A self-booking link is a public URL that lets families book a specific slice of your studio — certain services, certain teachers, certain locations. You build them under Settings → Business → Self-Booking Links.

Saving one takes two clicks in two different places:

Stage Button What it does
1 Add Link, or Update, inside the link window Puts the link into the form on your screen. Nothing is saved yet
2 Update Business at the bottom of the page Writes every change in that section to your studio. This is the save

We commonly get asked in support about disapperring links. Almost always, stage 1 happened and stage 2 did not. Closing the page, clicking Go Back, or refreshing the browser after Add Link but before Update Business discards the link, and there is nothing to recover.

Why saving happens in two stages

The extra step exists because a self-booking link is rarely the only thing you are changing, and a half-configured public URL is worse than no URL at all.

You get to stage your work. A launch usually means several links at once — a trial link, a group-class link, a summer-camp link. The two-stage save lets you build all three, compare them in the list, fix the one with the wrong teacher filter, then publish the set with one click. Families never see a link that only half exists.

Nothing goes public by accident. Because Add Link writes only to the form on your screen, you can open the window, experiment with service and staff filters, decide it is not what you wanted, and walk away. Your live booking page never changed.

You can back out cleanly. There is no unpublish step to perform, because you never published. Under a one-click save, an experiment becomes a live URL families can find and book through before you catch the mistake.

Landing pages come along for the ride. Self-booking links can be attached to Landing Pages, and Opus1 notes this under the link list:

Any changes to self-booking links could be reflected on the landing pages associated with the updated self-booking links.

Saving links and landing pages together in one Update Business keeps the two in step, rather than leaving a landing page pointing at a link that changed underneath it.

Where to find self-booking links

  1. Go to Settings → Business.
  2. Open the Self-Booking Links tab.
  3. Click the edit pencil on the card you want:
    • Self-booking links — the links themselves
    • Landing page links — the menus that group several links together

Each card is edited and saved separately. Opening one puts the page into an edit view titled Edit Self-booking links, with Update Business and Go Back at the bottom.

While that edit view is open, you cannot switch tabs. Opus1 does this deliberately, so you cannot wander into another section and lose unsaved work without noticing.

Who can edit

Role View the Business page Edit and save self-booking links
Owner Yes Yes
Manager Yes Yes
Staff No No
Limited Staff No No

A greyed-out edit pencil shows this on hover: Only managers/owners are allowed to modify business settings.

Some managers are configured so that only self-booking links and landing pages save when they click Update Business, while other business fields on the page are left as they were. That is expected rather than an error.

Stage 1: Add Link

Click Add a custom link, choose the widget type — Session Self-Booking, Appointment Self-Booking, or Event Self-Booking — and fill in the Create Link window. Setting up the link itself, including which services, locations, staff, and payment plans it covers, is documented in Creating Self-Booking Links.

Two things about this stage matter for saving.

Add Link stays disabled while the form is invalid. The Link name becomes the public URL, so Opus1 rejects it when it is empty, contains anything other than lower case letters, numbers, and dashes, or duplicates an existing link. If Call to action is on, its title cannot be empty either. A greyed-out button here is a validation problem, not a save problem.

Clicking Add Link does not save anything. The window closes and the link appears in the list with its address, which looks like completion. Nothing has been written to your studio yet.

Stage 2: Update Business

Scroll to the bottom of the section and click Update Business. You are done when the green Business updated successfully message appears and the page returns to the read-only Self-Booking Links tab with your link on the card.

Before sending the link anywhere, open your link in a private window. If it loads without a login prompt, visitors can use it — and if it does not, see My self-booking link sends clients to a login page.

Three ways to work, and when to pick each

All three end at Update Business. They differ in how much you stack up first.

1. Save one change at a time

Add one link, click Update Business, then start the next.

  • Best for: busy studios, several admins, or editing during business hours
  • Trade-off: more clicks, and each save reloads the section
  • Why choose it: the less time your editor sits open, the less chance someone saves ahead of you or you walk away and your session times out
2. Batch a launch, then save once

Build every link for a campaign, review the list as a whole, then click Update Business once.

  • Best for: links that should go live together, and editing links and landing pages in one pass so they stay consistent
  • Trade-off: the longer the editor stays open, the higher the risk someone else saves first — and the more work you have exposed if that happens
  • Why choose it: families never catch a launch mid-build, and you get one review pass over the whole set
3. Draft it, then throw it away

Open the window, build a link, look at the filters and preview, then click Go Back without saving.

  • Best for: working out whether a filter combination does what you expect
  • Trade-off: none, as long as you remember nothing was saved
  • Why choose it: the only risk-free way to experiment on a live studio

What reverting means

Reverting here always means discarding changes that were never saved. It never rolls back a link that is already live, because Opus1 does not keep previous versions of a self-booking link. There is no Revert or Undo button.

Four things discard changes, and they differ in scope:

Action What it discards Recoverable?
Cancel in the Create Link window The link you were filling in. Links already added to the list stay No
Remove on a link in the list, then confirm That one link, from the list on your screen. A live link stays live until you click Update Business Re-add it manually
Go Back at the bottom of the page Everything unsaved in that section — every link added, updated, or removed since you opened the editor No
Refreshing or closing the browser tab The same as Go Back, with no warning prompt No

Two consequences worth knowing.

Remove is also a two-stage action. Removing a live link takes it out of the list, but the public URL keeps working until you click Update Business. Remove a link and then click Go Back, and the link is still live.

Go Back is all or nothing. If you added four links and want to keep three, Go Back cannot drop only the fourth. Remove the one you do not want, then save the rest.

When Opus1 reverts the page for you

There is one case where the page changes under you without you asking.

If someone else saves business settings while your editor is open, and Opus1 receives their saved version, the editor reloads with their version. Your unsaved links vanish from the list and the page looks as though you never touched it.

Nothing is broken and nothing was corrupted — the other person's save succeeded, and yours never existed anywhere but your screen. But the change is not recoverable and there is no message explaining it. If a link you were partway through disappears on its own, this is almost certainly why, so check with anyone else who has admin access before assuming a bug.

This shares a root cause with the error in the next section. Which one you see depends on timing: if the other person's save reaches your browser first, the page reverts silently; if you click Update Business first, you get the error.

Data Conflict Detected

You clicked Update Business and got a red message:

Data Conflict Detected Another user modified the business settings while you were editing. Please refresh the page to get the latest version before saving.

What it means

When you opened the editor, Opus1 took a snapshot of your business settings. When you clicked Update Business, it checked whether that snapshot was still current, and it was not — someone else saved business settings in between.

Rather than let your save overwrite theirs, Opus1 stopped and told you. This is a safety feature, not a failure.

The conflict is about your whole Business record, not about self-booking links specifically. The other person could have been editing an entirely different part of Settings → Business, so you do not need to find another link edit to explain it.

What is and is not true right now
Question Answer
Was anything saved? No. The click did nothing
Was the other person's work damaged? No. Their save went through normally
Are your changes still on screen? Yes — the links you added are still in the list
Will refreshing keep them? No. Refreshing discards them
Does the page refresh itself? No. Nothing happens until you act
The mistake to avoid

The message says to refresh the page. That is correct, and it is also how people lose their work, because refreshing discards everything you just built and the message does not warn you. The message also disappears on its own after about six seconds, which is not long enough to read it, think, and decide.

Do not refresh yet. Your unsaved links are still on screen. Save them somewhere outside Opus1 first.

Recovery, step by step
  1. Stop. Do not refresh, do not click Go Back, do not close the tab.
  2. Capture what you built. A screenshot of the link list is usually enough. For a link with a lot of configuration, open it with Update and screenshot the window too, or write down the link name, title, services, staff, and locations.
  3. Check in with the other admin, if you know who it is. Agreeing on who goes first saves a second round of this.
  4. Refresh the page. Your unsaved changes are now gone, and the page shows the current settings including their changes.
  5. Re-open the editor and re-enter your links from your screenshots.
  6. Click Update Business and confirm you see Business updated successfully.

If the conflict keeps happening, the other person is probably still saving repeatedly. Wait until they are finished, or ask them to hold off for a few minutes.

Habits that prevent conflicts

Each of these shortens the window between opening the editor and clicking Update Business.

  • Save in smaller batches. One or two links per Update Business rather than ten.
  • Do not leave the editor open. If a lesson or a phone call pulls you away, click Update Business first, or Go Back and start again later. An editor left open all afternoon is the highest-risk state.
  • Say something before a big edit. "I'm in Business settings for the next twenty minutes" in your team chat is the whole fix, and it costs nothing.
  • Draft long descriptions elsewhere. Write titles and descriptions in a notes app and paste them in. Composing inside the window is what makes edits long.
  • Remember the whole page counts. Two admins in two different sections of Settings → Business will still collide.

Renaming a link

Changing Link name on an existing link changes its public URL. Opus1 treats that as a replacement rather than a redirect, so before you rename:

  • The old URL stops working once you click Update Business. Anything pointing at it — bookmarks, flyers, emails, website buttons — breaks.
  • Landing pages drop the link. A landing page that pointed at the old name loses that entry rather than following the rename, so re-add the link to the landing page and save.

If the link is already circulating, the safer move is usually to add a new link with the name you want and leave the old one in place until traffic dies down.

Troubleshooting

I added a link but it is not there anymore. The likeliest cause is that Update Business was never clicked. Add it again and finish with Update Business. If you are certain you saved, see the silent-revert case above — another admin may have saved over your session.

Update Business does nothing, or the link window will not close. Look for a red validation message in the window. Add Link and Update stay disabled while the link name is empty, contains invalid characters, or duplicates an existing link. If Call to action is switched on, its title cannot be empty.

I got Data Conflict Detected. Nothing saved and nothing was damaged. Capture your work before refreshing, following the recovery steps above.

The page reset itself and my link is gone. Another admin saved business settings while you were editing, and the editor reloaded with their version. That change is not recoverable, so re-enter it and save promptly.

I removed a link but families can still book through it. Remove only takes the link out of the list on your screen. Click Update Business to make the removal real.

My link is greyed out when I try to add it to a landing page. The link is missing a Title or a Photo. Edit the link, add both, save with Update Business, then build the landing page.

I cannot click the edit pencil. Only Owners and Managers can modify business settings in Opus1. Ask one of them to make the change.

I cannot switch tabs. Tab switching is disabled while an edit view is open. Finish with Update Business, or leave with Go Back.

FAQ

Is the link live as soon as I click Add Link? No. Add Link only puts the link into the form on your screen. Update Business is what makes it live in Opus1.

Is there an undo? No. Before saving, Go Back discards unsaved changes. After saving, you have to edit the link back to what it was, because Opus1 does not keep previous versions.

Will Opus1 warn me if I navigate away with unsaved changes? No. Closing the tab, refreshing, or clicking Go Back discards them without a prompt, which is why the two-stage save catches people.

Does Data Conflict Detected mean I broke something? No. Opus1 stopped your save before it could overwrite someone else's, and nothing was written. Your changes are still on screen until you refresh.

Can two of us edit self-booking links at the same time? You can both open the editor, but only the first to click Update Business succeeds. The second gets the conflict message, so take turns.
